Damn Learning Curve

Learning new programs is both fun and frustrating...

Recently, my laptop decided, "This world is far too cruel and painful to borther living through!" and fried it's motherboard.

So... I worked on my husband's computer for a while and it was only during that two month stretch where I realized that just how much I used the computer. I'd wake up at 10am every morning, work until about 2 take a break and then be back to work by 5 or 6 and go until 3am or so. Which meant my husband was totally unable to get his work done.

So a new laptop seemed to be necessary. But with a new laptop came the issue of software, specifically adobe photoshop, which was how I did most of my digital artwork. That little beastie is expensive! And you have to pay monthly to keep it these days. Call me old fashioned, but if I'm buying something I intend to use on a daily basis, I'd much rather pay it outright than have to find some magical amount of money in my pocket at the beginning of each month.

So I bought the cheaper alternative, Corel painter.

So far, I'm enjoying it. I do ned to work my way through some video tutorials to get past the clunky navigation, but I'm loving the paintbrush slection.

The best one so far is the impressionistic brush. You add a big ol' swath of color and then paint over it with the impressionistic brush and beautiful Starry Night stroke work appears.

Here's the first peice I drew from scratch in Corel:

I ended up painting a cat because I've been craving a second sona. She'll probably end up being another hybrid creature though. Like a bat/feline or raven'cat. Something with wings at any rate. One species just doesn't seem to cover it for me. LOL.
